The History of the Ring

Rings have been taken as symbolic tokens for centuries. The earliest uses of Ring as a symbol of Eternity Love and Relationship are attributed to the ancient Greeks, Romans, and Egyptians over 8 thousand years. Ancient Greeks are credited with the initial contribution to wear the ring on the fourth finger of the left hand, where the ancient Greek “vena amoris” means “vein of love”, and was supposed to get connected to the heart. Engagement Rings were meant to symbolize a romantic union in the wedlock stressed a woman’s connection to the man who would become her husband. Romans, claimed as the most powerful nations, used iron rings to symbolize strength and permanence.

During the 9th century, Pope Nicolas I endorsed the idea of engagement rings by making a ring as a betrothal requirement to demonstrate the groom’s wealth and ability to care for a wife.
